Unveiling Shadows of the Afterland: A Supernatural Adventure
Aruma Studios, the independent game developer acclaimed for their point-and-click adventure game, Intruder in Antiquonia, has unveiled their newest project, Shadows of the Afterland. The announcement came on September 29, 2023, and revealed that the game is set to be released in 2024 for PC (Windows, Linux, Mac) and Nintendo Switch.
Shadows of the Afterland is a supernatural comedy adventure that whisks players away on a captivating journey through the realms of the living and the afterlife. The game is set in 1960 Madrid and follows the story of a soul that arrives with the memories of Carolina, a pioneer of the Madrid police force who, surprisingly, hasn’t even been born yet. As players fill Carolina's shoes, they will use magic, transition between worlds, and take possession of the living to solve clever and logically sound puzzles that are closely intertwined with the storyline. The quest ultimately demands confronting the sinister forces that plague the world of the living. The first gameplay of Shadows of the Afterland can be viewed in the announcement trailer here:
According to Rubén López, co-founder of Aruma Studios and writer of the game, "Shadows of the Afterland is a supernatural journey where players will have to confront their fears and make difficult decisions about their destiny." The game's world is described as "hauntingly beautiful," with carefully crafted pixel art and a spine-chilling soundtrack.
