Star Trek: Resurgence plotting a course for spring release
It's been a long time since the last adventure game in the Star Trek universe, but that is due to change next year with a new Telltale-style narrative adventure by Dramatic Labs called Star Trek: Resurgence.
Set between Star Trek: Nemesis and "the events surrounding the Romulan supernova," as most recently seen in the television series Picard, Resurgence puts players in the dual roles of First Officer Jara Rydek and Engineering Crewperson Carter Diaz aboard the U.S.S. Resolute. Alternating viewpoints between the "upper decks and lower decks" of the starship, the story will see the two work to "unravel a sinister mystery involving two alien civilizations on the brink of war."
Similarites to Telltale are no coincidence, as a number of Telltale alumni are instrumental in the new game, including Dramatic Labs Founder Kevin Bruner. The new studio's debut "third-person narrative choice-based game" will task players with making multiple dialogue choices and "big decisions" that promise to significantly alter the story in more than superficial ways. There will also be more hands-on and even action-oriented elements to contend with, as befits a tale aboard a starship in the midst of a galactic conflict, including "shuttle piloting, stealth and phaser combat, tricorder scanning, and more." Along the way, fans of the franchise will encounter a number of familiar faces (including one very prominent Vulcan teased in the first trailer), as well as many new ones in an original story.
Unlike episodic Telltale releases, Star Trek: Resurgence will be launched as a single game that is due out sometime in spring 2022 on the Epic Games store for PC, along with console versions for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
