Of Two Minds: A Psychoanalytic Gaming Journey
Of Two Minds, an intriguing psychoanalytic FMV game, is set to launch on iOS on February 5th. The game, developed by Burgeon & Flourish, offers a unique exploration of the human psyche, set against the backdrop of the gritty but vibrant New York of the late 80s. With a narrative crafted from footage shot in 1989, this game has been 35 years in the making, making it a unique addition to the gaming landscape.
Of Two Minds places the player in the psychoanalyst's chair, delving deep into the minds of a diverse cast of characters. The game's nonlinear narrative is driven by the player's exploration and connection of themes within the characters' thoughts and memories. As players uncover more about the characters' histories, secrets, and obsessions, they'll be able to fill in the gaps and progress the story.
The concept for the game began in 1989 when award-winning film director Michael Bergmann shot more than three hours of footage about the intense love affair between two psychoanalysts. Three decades later, Bergmann teamed up with game designer and composer Lucas Tahiruzzaman Syed to adapt the footage into the game Of Two Minds. As psychoanalysis has faded from mainstream popularity, the game aims to preserve and popularize some of its most transformative ideas.
Of Two Minds is more than just a game; it's a narrative experience set to unveil the secrets of its unique characters. It's a journey into the human psyche, a dive into the late 80s New York, and a testament to the transformative power of psychoanalysis.
