What’s your favorite roguelike?
(Rogue-lites, roguelike-likes, Roguettes heh, etc., feel free to list them too.)
I’m old school. While not really a NetHack player (it’s awesome though) I like Linley’s Dungeon Crawl the best. It seems the most fair and contains no random instant deaths. As some of you know, Dungeon Crawl became Stone Soup.
I’ve finished Dungeon Crawl quite a few times. It’s always been on my desktop (and it always runs).
I also played (and still enjoy) the Doom roguelike (DRL) which is fun and an old precursor to roguelikes, Telengard.
In 2001-2002 my friend Iikka Keranen and I made and released a space sf hybrid roguelike called Strange Adventures in Infinite Space. It pretty much follows the roguelike rules but plays to completion in 30 minutes or less. It sort of comes off as half instant space opera, and half animated board game. I still play it almost every day.
