Explore a Strange World Before It’s Too Late
Montreal-based developer Scavengers Studio has released a new trailer for their upcoming game SEASON: A letter to the future, offering a deeper look into the game's emotionally-charged and thought-provoking world and story. The trailer also introduces some of the key characters players will encounter during their journey.
SEASON: A letter to the future tells the story of a young woman from a secluded village who sets out to explore the world for the first time, collecting memories before a cataclysm washes everything away. The gameplay focuses on exploring, recording, meeting others, and unraveling the strange world around the player.
According to Margherita Siconnino, Head Producer, and Kevin Sullivan, Creative Director of Scavengers Studio, "This project would not exist without the series of miraculous people who compose our team, who lifted us up and poured their absolute souls into the game. We’re deeply grateful to them and so excited for players to encounter stories and memories from the warmly fading world of SEASON. Now it's time to rest, time to call home."
In addition to the story trailer, the studio has also shared more information about some of the key characters players will encounter during their journey in the game, such as Kochi, a young boy who takes the player on a bicycle tour of a valley the day before it is flooded, Maytora, an outsider artist who documents the story of the valley through her sculptures, and Easel, the last monk of Tieng Valley, who awaits the change of the season in isolation.
The gameplay of SEASON: A letter to the future focuses on exploring, recording, meeting others, and unraveling the strange world around the player. The player can hop off their bike and equip a recording tool from their bag at any point. Each captures a different element, such as sounds and music, art and architecture, voices of old people, vanishing religious practices, and the traces of seasons long past. The tools help the player examine the world more closely and understand the culture, history, and ecology underneath everything.
The game will be available digitally on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and on PC through Steam, and the Epic Games Store on January 31, 2023.
